DARPA The Grand Challenge

These two shots were taken at the Foothill research center in Los Altos,ca.I have a friend that is involved in this cutting edge technology.
He is a project engineer at the VW electronics lab here in the Bay area. This car is one of 2 VW entries in the 2007 DARPA Grand Challenge project. VW won last years race, this year looks to be just as exciting. They still have alot of bugs to iron out.(note the missing bumper)
I stopped by while out mountain biking, I was lucky to see the car being tested in the parking lot. Fully robotic operation(not remote control) It's wild. Don't miss the race Nov.3rd :thumbsup:

There is alot of buzz in the Bay Area over this stuff,As you can see the Stanford "S" is proudly displayed right out front.

It's got almost as many decals as a Nascar vehicle. Nice to know there is plenty of sponsorship for this.
