Sad but important images to see.

The state of manufacturing in North America has been in decline for a very long time. So long that the monthly decline of manufacturing jobs and businesses almost goes unmentioned in government reports anymore as it is seen as a "given". The recent housing and financial woes have captured the sympathy of Washington despite manufacturing seeing crashes and declines in the past and present.

In terms of going into and coming out of a recession, manufacturing is typically the first-in-last-out

It was built in 1919 as an aluminum manufacturing plant. Then it was purchased by another company that made automotive parts.

Spooky? Not really more like thrilling knowing that there was active security on site...yeah I'm weird like that. This was probably my one chance to go inside due to the nature of the place.

I really like those B&W shots. I've been looking around for buildings like this for exploration. I found once place, but couldn't get inside due to security. I really like how these turned out so I'll have to try a little harder.

Have you ever actually asked for permission to go shoot these places? If so, what was the result?

Asked permission, I have asked a couple of times for certain heavily fortified buildings. The first time I was told no. The second time they let me and a group of explorers come in and take all the shots we wanted. It just so happened that they were working that day and didn't really mind if we photographed the building.
