D200 fun in the sun and water...

A couple of weeks ago it was scorching in the bay area. For the relief of Los Perros Grandes we filled up the water bin with water.

Max, our newest dog is no longer a small tike.... He loves the water.

Taken with the D200 at iso 100 @ f/2.8 using the on camera flash. I used a manual wb setting of 5300 which is daylight. Spent absolutely no time modifying color, saturation on the jpg files. The D200 is becoming a favorite camera because I spend less time in front of the computer.

Really having fun with your new D200, eh? I'm so jealous-I wanted one, but I guess I'll stick to being a Canonnite.
Awww..what an adorable puppy! Reminds me of our own Midori. I couldn't view the pics at first.I loaded the url for each photo to view then reloaded this page and the photos finally displayed. Cute puppy. Labrador? Unfortunately, our puppy (Midori who apparently is a lab/chow/border collie mix) had to be euthanized. There was an aggressive trait she started to display (resource guarding) that became more dominant as she got older, and she's bitten me, and my kids, and grandma, and a friend of ours, despite working with a trainer. Unfortunate, because 99.5 percent of the time she was just so loving, like a typical labrador, but she has some of that chow and border collie nippishness and aggressiveness. It's just that the 0.5 percent is where someone might get seriously hurt-I'm not worried about the adults, it's the little ones like my kids and their friends who come over who might not be as careful around her when she gets possesive of her food and toys.

    Loren,

Nice fun pictures! Max is growing into quite the beautiful puppy! He still has that puppy look. I too liked the 2nd one.....the expression on his face - and I love the little tub.

I'm glad you're enjoying Max.......and sharing him with us!

Nice pics. You guys are making a very strong case for the D200. Would love to move up my purchase schedule but then I love my marriage even more.
Don't forget about the Gallery. Are your photos there??

    Wb - 5300

    Loren,

Do you always use WB at 5300? What about flash or shade condidtions. do you change it at all?

the colors are really nice at 5300 and I am still trying out what works best for me with the D200.

    Re: Wb - 5300

    Hi Wes,

I do change the WB, but most of my shooting is during the day. So if I want warmth I use a warming filter, as if I was shooting film.

During the indoor and other types of lighting I use the WB settings are use a color temperature reading.

Keep in mind that these images are JPEG so there is in-camera processing in the D200. The images were set to optimize with the Vivid mode in the Adobe RGB color space.

The main reason I set it to 5300 is for consistency. It's easier to color balance in RAW if the color is off.

Thanks Liz for taking a look. He and Montana are quite a handful but they give us a lot of laughs.

Great shots Loren! Glad to see you're enjoying your D200! I've done a lot of shooting with mine, but it's been in spurts (dance recital, day at the beach, etc). I'm looking forward to having some time to really wring it out good, and play with the settings - WB, color modes, etc.

Have you written your reveiw of the D200 yet? Not trying to rush you, just curious.

Nice shots! That is a very cute dog and you captured it well.

I personally have a warming filter (came with a lens once) but I never use it on digital, just fine tune the white balance...its just another element to degrade optical quality and induce flare.

Changing WB in raw has more of an effect on noise than anything if you shoot at high ISO sometimes too.

    Hey Speed,
No I haven't had much time to write a review. Probably this weekend. It's a fun camera and extremely easy to use.
    Keep posted for the review.....

    Hey Rick,
It probably got in the upper 80's low 90's. Our house doesn't have AC so it felt like 200 degreees.
    Thanks for taking a look...
