A couple of snaps from the Grand Waileia

Alisa and I celebrated our 16th anniversary at the Humuhumunukunukuapua'a restaurant at the Grand Waileia (did I spell that right?). Fabulous place, incredible food and service with a matching price tag, but we rented a condo a few miles north of the Waileia instead. Next time we'll spend a night or two here just to pamper ourselves.

I've stayed at the Grand Wailea twice. It is without a doubt, the best hotel I've ever stayed in (and I've stayed in a number of well-known shacks.) You won't be disappointed. The spa is world class.

Sounds like a beautiful hotel and I love the fountain pic! Great shots and hope the dinner was worth the price you paid!

The spa is definitely world class. My wife and my partner's wife (our two families vacationed together) went today, and loved it so much they made reservations for me and my practice partner this afternoon. Man, it was AWESOME. and this from a guy who isn't into spas and things like that.

Thanks for this. Where is it located? DH and I are looking for a place to go for our (delayed) anniversary trip this year.

The Grand Wailea is on the south western side of Maui. Here's a link http://www.grandwailea.com/
If you love golf (I don't ) shopping (I do ) and outstanding service and pampering (who doesn't?) then Wailea is the place for you. There are other really outstanding resorts in Wailea besides the Grand Wailea (the Four Seasons is supposed to be a notch better, and a tad more pricey). The nice thing about Maui is that there are so many beaches all on the west side of the island between Wailea all the way up past Lahaina, all good for snorkeling and whatever beach activities you like. There's a lot of commercially available excursions (all overpriced and some overrated) .There's places to go horseback riding, volcanoe paragliding, sail gliding, kayaking, shopping (of course), and the east side of the island is great if you like touring by car and hiking your way through some rugged terrain to find some secluded freshwater falls and pools. We rented a condo in Kihei, just 5 minutes north of Wailea, where costs are noticeably lower all around, and much better if you have kids. It's hard to eat out every day when you have little ones, so the condo worked better for us since it allowed us to cook for breakfast, wash clothes as needed, and the location in Kihei was great because of the easy access to all the other areas of interest in Maui. The main highway north towards Lahaina gets really congested, so staying in the North side of the island was out for us. We got a lot of good advice from friends who vacation every year on Maui and my partner and his family have been here four previous times, so we got to see the highlights of Maui. Definitely go see Ulalena (it's a show about the history of Hawaii set in dance and song-oddly enough it was written by a Canadian) in Lahaina if you do go to Maui. Next time I go, I'm going to spend the majority of the time just snorkeling or scuba diving (if I get my scuba certification in the next year) with my son. I hope you and DH go to Maui for your anniversary, it's very romantic, even with kids and friends along for the vacation
