A couple from my photo expedition this afternoon

Well I got out of school early and didn't have to goto work today, so I figured I'd go out and do some shooting. I ended up going to two different locations and spent about 3 hours at the first, and about 1 hour at the last. Due to the amount of rain we've been having the past few weeks, there was plenty of water to photograph. Here is a couple, and there is more posted here

Great shots! I also really like your shot #073. I am biased towards flowing water and water in general. Looks like you were able to get a variety of angles and subject matter.

I haven't made a single serious outdoor exposure since last October or November. Thanks for reminding me that there is always shots out there to be had!

That second shot is just amazing...very mystic type feel to it!

Great black and white by the way! Well done!

The second shot to me, gives no impression of depth from top to bottom or from side to side, it is like a 100% crop of another picture to see grain/clarity of the original image (make sense). I like the third shot that is very good, would like to see it in colour though as well. It does need some work on it, like bringing out the shadows a little and sharpening as well, as it appears soft, or is that your intention.

Good stuff. Love the bw treatment of the third shot. Many would not see that...

Re: A couple from my photo expedition this afternoon

Thanks for the comments! Here is my reasonings for the way I took the shots (besides the fact that I thought they looked cool.)

#1- I was trying to bring out the texture in the fern leaves. It was pretty much a camera parallel with the leaves using flash as my main light. I had to use flash because even at ISO 400 it was dark enough in the forest that I was getting VERY slow shutter speeds and with the wind blowing slighty there was too much movement in the leaves.

#2 Is actually a macro shot of part of the waterfall that I saw on my trip. I ended up spending a good 45 minutes at this waterfall because the way the fog/misty rain was, it created an awsome effect. I took a few shots of the whole thing, and then switched to my macro lens & my 70-200 and zoomed in close focusing on different parts of the waterfall.

#3 I do plan on working on this one with the highlights/shadows. I like it a little soft, and I may try to add a very slight glow to add to the dreamy effect that it has. It was really misty/foggy when I took this shot which is probably why it came out soft as it did. I'm also attaching the color version for Peter to check out

Yeah, backs up what I said perfectly. This color pic is ok, but IMO looks pretty ordinary. The bw version captures much more of a mood...

When I took the picture I was actually thinking of it being done in black & white. While thinking about it today, I think I'm also gonna try it with an infared look as well.

Really nice shots, there. The 3rd one is definitely my fav, especially as the color version. That is one to PFH and maybe even have made into a large poster. Love what you did with the leaves using the flash and the waterfall with macro. Now I have two new ideas to try out.

Great photos! My favourite is the third one. I think the black and white choice suits it really well.

I love the 3rd one - in b&w. The composition is great, as well as the contrast - it's sharp. Very nice.
