Could it be? Fall colors in Arizona?!

    You betcha!

Got back from Oak Creek Canyon today, where the fall colors were puuurdy. Can't wait to find more great Arizona fall scenes to shoot. I felt like I was back east!

Some more shots from neighboring Sedona. Wandered up Long Canyon (no relation, lol) and found this alcove off the beaten path just waiting to be explored...

Rick I had no idea that Arizona had that much fall color. Nice job. Does it make you home sick for the East? I was out last weekend and the hills here in KY were just beautifull with their fall colors on.
Don't forget about the Gallery. Are your photos there??

I like the alcove shot. Where there other habitations nearby?

I also like the slickrock with the grasses/reeds.

You guys have trees out there? I thought you just had those tall prickly things!

Nice shots, Rick - we didn't have much of a fall here so I missed out.

Great shots, Rick! I remember well Oak Canyon in the Fall. Two years ago Claudia and I vacationed in Flagstaff in November for a few days. There was still lots of color then, and I was able to get shots before and after it snowed. It was wonderful!

By the way, in that first shot of the alcove, it looks like the rocks are purposely stacked in a semi circle. Indian archeological remains, perhaps?

Thanks Chunk. Yes, there are ruins scattered through these mountains, you have to either know where to look, or stumble upon them like I did these. The Sedona tourism board doesn't broadcast where to find them (and rightly so, I think!)

    Thanks for the comments!

Yeah, if you look hard enough out here you can find the occassional tree or two. But who notices with all these beautiful cacti around!

Re: Could it be? Fall colors in Arizona?!

    Thanks Larry

I was surprised to hear that Arizona has fall color, too. Then I started seeing it and it made me happy that I could get there in a two hour drive or so. This state never ceases to amaze!

About being homesick for the east, occassionally I do miss the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. The blues and greens in spring and the quiltwork of colors in the fall is truly a site to behold. But then it snows and ices for a week there and I remember why I am living in Arizona now

    Hey Brian

How'd the move go? How's your new job at ASU working out?

Looks like you had some fun in Sedona too. I used my digi p&s on my shots here, too. They really do a good job on the fly, don't they?

    Thanks!

    Thanks Ray

I have yet to make it up to Flag to shoot the Aspens changing color or the snow on the Peaks. I will do one or the other before it all melts though

Yes, those are archaeological (sp!) ruins. They are scattered through the hills there, and a treasure to find! These were unexpected, just a pleasant surprise. Other ruins are a lot more intact, like these in the next canyon over:

Taken with the old fisheye by the way!

I am going out of town for the weekend, but I am trying to get your picture in the mail today before I go. I also tried printing out one of my Joshua Tree pics for ya, but it didn't come out so good. Anyway, watch for them hopefully in a few days!

    Thanks!

the move went ok. My car is now repaired after the nice parting gift from MA drivers.

Work is going well, but more intresting. My college was place on forced medical leave, so I have be come a one man show 3 years ahead of schedule. I'm settling into life in the valley.

Yes, Sedona was great. especially now that it is 1.5 hours away (w/ good traffic). I was out in the remote parts of White Tank last weekend. but I managed to not take many pictures.

I only had to live though a week of the 105F. but the first day it was 95F it felt cold. how sad. =)

we'll have to get together and have our own NAG (Not A Gathering) get together photo shoot. let me know when you'll be heading out over the next month or so and I see if I can tag along.
