Clouds & Moon For Seb, Penny...

And anyone else who enjoys them.

Got up at 5:00am yesterday to photograph the transit of Venus. Had my N80 on the Celestron, so I took some photo's with the Coolpix 5700. It was a foggy morning, but we did get to see quite a bit of the transit.

Of course, seeing the moon out, I had to take some shots. My youngest daughters got up and went with me, and I met a friend who also has a Celestron C-8 and he's also a Nikon shooter. We had our own little transit party.

    Hope you enjoy these.

    Best to You,

Thank you for your comments. We had a lot of fun, and it was exciting watching something that hadn't occurred in 122 years!

My two daughters that went with me that morning both have digital cameras. They are Kodak 2.0 MP point and shoot types, but they love them. In fact, my youngest girl saved up her allowance and birthday money, and bought a 256 MB memory card so she could take more pictures with her camera! She is definitely into photography.

I'll be sure to post more shots for you as I take them. We had some wonderful clouds yesterday afternoon - all dark and moody - but I couldn't find anything to place in the image to ground the image or make it interesting. It really gets to me sometimes, having to go to an appointment when I really want to go photograph something. It really limits what I can do. I am looking forward to retirement! ;-)

It's nice that the kids are enjoying photography with you. Can we see some of their work?

Do you have a shot like the third one but without the kids and the camera. I like the way the shape of the tree echoes the shape of the cloud.

Nice work, I like the soft colors.

I appreciate the comments. I'll see about posting some of the girls photo's. I've got to get them loaded on the computer first.

Unfortunately, I do not have another shot like number three. These four shots were taken while we were waiting for the sun to rise. Feel free to crop it or clone it to see if you can get it like you want. In fact, if you want I'll email you the original file to play with. It's 298 KB, so it shouldn't take too long to download. Send me a private message with your email address if you want the file.

I feel like a dunce, in that I never noticed the tree and the clouds looking similar until you pointed it out. If I had noticed it at the time, I would have made a point of taking a shot like you wanted. Guess I was too caught up in the moment.

The early morning fog definitely adds to an image. Makes for some great moody shots.

Thanks again for the comments. Have a great day.

Thanks for the offer of the file, but I don't think I'd be up to that kind of manipulation and not have it looking all hacked up.
I know what you mean about not seeing something that later seems obvious. I suffer from that a lot Your mind was probably millions of miles away with venus and not on a tree a couple hundred feet away.

Gulp! I'm afraid I didn't. Does this mean I'm now banned from Chicago? :-(

Will this one get me invited?

    Pretty please?!

You're welcome. Like you, I'd never think of attempting that kind of manipulation. :-)

Touche'! That's exactly where it was. These were grab shots that I took to set the mood as it were, and show the weather conditions. More of documentary shots, if you will.

    Thanks for the comments!

The youngest filled her card quickly. Faced with the prospect of deleting some of her images, she decided she wanted a bigger memory card. She's a very smart girl.

The simple solution would be to download them onto the computer. The problem is, she took her CD and her USB cable to her biological father's house. He's a pro photographer, so it seemed a natural thing to do. Unfortunately, he won't print off the photo's for her on his gear - it's too expensive.

So we take her memory card to Wal Mart and get her images printed. If he would send her CD and USB back, we could download her images and burn them to a CD for her. The "joys" of being a blended family.

Glad you enjoyed the photo's. I figured they would appeal to you. ;-)
