    Canadian Aviation Museum

Visited the Aviation Museum at Rockcliffe air base, and was quite pleased with the the wide variety of aircraft all displayed under one roof. If your ever in Ottawa, and like airplanes, the museum should be on your list of places to visit !
Here are a few of many images I shot during my recent visit - enjoy !

Good series Alex !! I'm amazed at the similarity in our shots, but there is only so much you can do when the subjects are static. The other museum display area was not open for my visit. By the way, the AC DC-9 only has two engines.

Rivman, looks good. Curious, is that a piece of an Avro Arrow I can see in the background of the second last one? I remember those well, and I also remember when they cut them all up (there were 5 or 6 of them if I remember correctly) and shut the project down - decimated Canada's aircraft industry. Thanks.

Yes that is the Avro Arrow piece in the background. If you want to see a full Avro Arrow (A full scale model) Check out the Airplane Museum in Downsview (Toronto)

It is indeed WG, a surviving part of Canada's aviation history, the last Avro Arrow RL-206. Looks like someone rescued it from the scrap dealer before it went to the smelter. They also have two surviving Arrow wing sections stashed away somewhere. I remember seeing them 30+ years ago, lying behind one of the old WWII hangers on the south side of the field that were used to display the huge collection before they built the new museum building.

Rivman, thanks for the confirmation. I even remember seeing them fly with Jan Zurakowski (since deceased) as the pilot. Unfortunately, they never flew with the Rolls Royce engines that were intended to be in them - what a shame. Oh well, nostalgia rears its head again.

Axle, thanks for the picture from Downsview. It will probably be a long time before I ever get to TO again, but I shall keep the Downsview museum stashed away in the back of my mind as a must see.

    Regards,

    WesternGuy
