Built My Self A Remote For My Xt=)

well today was a crappy day out, so i decided id build me a remote for my camera. So i had all the parts ready just never put it togethar, i found a quick diagram on a blog on the net.
all i used was 1 toggle switch to controll the shutter, 2 momentary switches for the auto focus, and one to press to take a picture.
i put it all togethar and used phone cord for the cord of the remote.
works awesome and its a pretty clean looking DIY
take a look at the finished product.

well i went to "radio shack" here in canada (not sure if these stores are in the US) but it only cost me 15 bucks
-2$ for the 2 momentary switches
-3$ for the single pole toggle switch
-4$ for the little black project box to mount everything on
-2$ for the jack to plug into the camera
-4$ for the roll of phone cord

    15$ tax included

the reason i used phone cord is because its plyable and it doesnt have any spring to it like for instance a CAT5 cable or something along those lines!

    very fun build!
this is the site i found the project on!

give it a try it took me 20 mins to do everything perfectly!

no prob! alot cheaper then buying one and you can use things to mount your buttons in like a little film tube/container, and you can get different sized black project boxes to fit the size of your hand too!

So did you just jam the wires in there or what? I'm not sure I get it.

DIY projects area lot of fun. I like how Canon used the mini plug for the remote on some of their lower end cameras. It makes projects like this pretty simple, and it makes it easy to extend your remote cord.

Do you have a way of locking your shutter open for using bulb mode with your release? That has come in very handy many many times on mine. Much better than holding the button down for really long exposures.

no i didint jam them in, i drilled a 3/4 inch hole in the end of the box to run the phone cord through once i pulled it through i tied a knot in the cord so that is wont pull through and put pressure on the switch terminals. and once the cord was through i soldered the wires on to the terminals, its not packed inside the box as all!

thanks for the comments and i dont mind sharing
