    Boredom + D300 + SB800 + leftovers

Well, I haven't had much of a chance to go out shooting with my new D300 yet, so I decided to do some shots in my DIY lightbox. I love the colors I get out of the D300. The only thing I did was a slight curves adjustment. I used D2MODE1 with a kick of contrast and saturation. Lit by an SB800 and a spare desk lamp. Hopefully I get a chance to get some real shots in a week or so as I finish some finals.

edit: haha oops, forgot the photo

    mmmmm.... food!

Use that D300 more! I guarantee you the more shooting you do the more you'll love it. I just had a fantastic few days with it, and it's done everything from meetings to candids to press conferences to division I NCAA sports without batting an eyelash. It's the most versatile camera I've used yet.

I'm wondering why you chose D2XmodeI though. Are you still adjusting to picture controls, or do you just like the D2x mode better?

i was doing some testing between the different color modes, and im rather fond of where the D2x mode is. vivid was too much, standard was almost there, and i found that dxmode1 with a bit of tweaking set me right between the two. just saves me a little time in post. comparing this between what i get out of my d80, i find i need to mess with a fair number less photos to get the look i like. that may all change though once i start to do some real shooting instead of just testing various things around the house between study sessions.

its almost required to have pizza while cramming for finals though. and yeah, i put it on a napkin because i didn't want to get my poster board dirty and have to replace it.

Have you tried creating a custom picture control in camera? I started with Standard, tweaked it to my liking and saved it as one of the custom picture controls.

yep. with the in camera controls the steps are bigger than i wanted, so tweaking either standard or vivid i couldnt get where i wanted, and mode1 happened to fall in between those, filling it out nicely
