    Bievres Photo Fair

Last weekend was the Photo Fair in Bievres, a village near Paris. I went down to it several times, I happen to live there.

    1. First trip at Midnight on Saturday. The people selling have come from all over Europe, they camp out in the center of the village in their stands. This one in front of the town hall is more specialised in cinema projection gear.
    2. I went down on Sunday lunchtime and looked at the Artists displaying their stuff. I have my theme, developed over the years - the Artist and his/her works.
    3. Anybody want to buy an RB67? A Leica? How about a D70s?
    4. There is a (free) model shoot and this year I promised myself I was going to do it but there were so many SERIOUS photographers who got there first and had the flash triggers. I just shot this one of the (very pretty) models by available light (1600 ISO underexposed by 2 stops = 6400 ISO on a D200)
    5. Finally the girls in the bakery wanted to be photographed. This is more my sort of subject.

All photos D200 with 18-200VR hand held. I wanted to see how effective the VR was. It seems to be very good at long focal lengths but at shorter ones I prefer to use a tripod.

Yeah, that looks interesting. I should find out if we ever have anything similar around here.

I've often wondered if you could "push" digital to higher ISOs like that, but I've never tried. I doubt it would work as well with my D70s, but your shot looks pretty good.

The camera told me I was underexposing but I did it anway. First image was hopelessly backlit with the girls faces all dark. However Nikon Capture (and I guess NX) has a feature to correct exposure by plus or minus two whole stops. I've never doing the two whole stops at 1600 ISO but it came out much better than I expected.

I have a D70 as well. It usually reacts pretty much the same as the D200 except that there is more noise and the highlights burn out faster. I actually prefer it over the D200 for black-and-white - it looks more contrasty straight out of the camera.
