    Belly Dancer

I got invited to a studio shoot of a belly dancer last week. If you want to read about it and see more photos, I posted about it in the Studio & Lighting forum:

    Re: Belly Dancer

John, just wanted to add one final comment, and it's not to judge the setup or model or the shots you came up with.

It's just that this kind of subject just begs for a stylish treatment. You mentioned looking forward to shooting her in a more natural enviroment with movement and energy, and if I were doing this shoot, that's exactly what I would try to recreate in the studio.

IOW, paint her and the scene with light: gridded gelled spots throwing soft abstract patterns on the bg, select hair and back lighting just to accent, small spots to throw light on sparkly wardrobe and accessories to give specular reflections, slight shutter drag to go with the flash to get a delicate movement blur. That kind of thing...

Obviously, the "easy" way to do that is with many lights and modifiers, and of course your setup was very simple. But still, you can create that kind of scene with a limited number of lights and on a budget, if you plan it well enough.
