Been away for a while.

I have been out on contract work and have only recently returned to civilization. I have been working with an ice camp north of Prudhoe Bay, Alaska. Prayers for the families of 2 sailors killed and a third injured in the line of duty on the HMS Tireless, a submarine participating in joint exercises with the USS Alexandria near the camp.
The first sub photo is the USS Alexandria and the Second is the Tireless where 2 sailors were killed yesterday.

It's a shame when crew get killed or injured in peace time and on excersises. My heart goes out to the families and thanks to the men and women who keep us safe.

On the first picture what is the fog on the right by the nose of the plane?

Such desolation its wonderful.

The smoke is from the yellow contraption(Aerotech Herman Nelson heater). We use that to heat up the airplane in the morning. Temperatures averaged around -35c in the mornings, the worst was a -47c one morning, those are temperatures right off the thermometer, no wind chill factored in. "Everything below zero is pretty much the same" is a bunch of BS, it's just bitter when it's that cold, add a little wind and frostbite is possible in seconds at those temperatures. I bit the top of my ear and a spot on my cheek in no time. Going back up for another week or so this morning.

Brrrrrr! thats cold. Came back from skiing in Canada where on one morning we had -30c and that is too cold to ski in.

What's odd is that I envy your journey, but not sure I would want to be there for more than a week. Take care.

Ooh ooh - I know! The Tireless is a Trafalgar class (I think that's what I read). Saw the story on CNN, sad news.

I say that to myself nearly daily...
Yeah north of Prudhoe Bay....on the ice cap. They have a runway built out there for us on the ice, and we fly people and supplies out there daily, or practically daily. Today the temperatures are up to a balmy +2c but the wind is blowing a wicked 30+knots and all of the snow from west of here is getting blown here right now. Visibility is hovering around 1/4 mile, not flying weather. More pictures to come when I get to a broadband account, only dial up here. :cryin:
