He does have some awesome stuff. I would love to go there to experience it all, but as a photo journey... well, he's already done that. ;) Besides I couldn't come close to that stuff...not yet.

One really wonders about the specifics of his shooting location for some of those great shots and what equipment he was using.

Amazing shots, I love his photojournalisitc style in the Hindu Devotion album. Definately has a "National Geographic" feel to it...I'm envious.

    Re: An awesome photographer...

Very nice photos although some are so beautiful they make me wonder if they're real (I'm pretty sure they are) like the one with the seagull with extended wings in the middle of two other seaguls sorta like looking up to her, the BG on that one is unreal too.
    Simply amazing!

Also, do we have an area in this forum that people post great photographer websites like this one? I'll love to browse more of these kind of sites.

If not, could more people link to sites like these here in this thread? I don't know of any myself.

I think it's important to view the best photographers work for inspiration and to come to an understanding of what makes them tick if one is working on improving their own photography.

I will for one, Lee. Jack Dykinga is one of the best landscape photogs I have seen in awhile. Here is a link to his site. http://www.dykinga.com/

    Thnx Srobb.

Those were also great. Too bad his watermarks are so prominent though.

Yeah, I would have liked to seen them a little lighter myself. I think, besides the quality of his work, the one reason I like him so much is that he does all film. He shoots mainly 6x6 medium format.

Went looking for other guy I had mentioned. His name is John Kay and does just as good of work, if not a little better, than Dykinga. He is a professional advisor to Outdoor Photographer magazine. Here is a link to his site. http://www.jameskay.com/home.htm Enjoy.

Very inspiring, Rick. It won't be that soon, but my plan is to go medium format at some time in the future.

Medium format is fun. Holding a strip of 120 positives up to the light is VERY fun

Looking through your links I noticed one of those guys is shooting 6x7. I hear it's a big step up from the 645 I'm using now. BUT, I think I am going to skip right over 6x7 and hit 4x5 LF for my next landscape format

    When the money comes in...

Not sure which one shoots the 6x7. I just thought it interesting that both of them shoot medium format. They are also both very adamant in their using film over digital. Dykinga even went so far as to say he has not seen anything digital that could come close to the resolution he can get from one of his film shots.

Once I can get to that point, what would be your suggestion for a medium format, Rick? I know the prices are coming down somewhat.

YES, I got a screaming deal on my 645 on Ebay! Which system you choose really depends on what you're shooting. If you're going to be carrying the sytem around, a 645 might be the ticket because it is smaller. 6x7 gets heavy, but your neg is HUGE. It depends on what ya wanna do with it. You can also look into the variety of Seaguls, etc that use 120 film to get a bigger neg.

I was reading up on large format on photo.net the other day. It sounds incredible, but you reeeealy gotta love the process of photography! It might take 5 minutes to get one exposure! Not meant for capturing your neice on her birthday with cake on her face But a negative that big.... Yummmm....

No, anything like that I get will be used pretty much for landscape shots only. I realize the size difference between my lil 35mm. I know my mentor reccomended the 6x7 size if I was going to do outdoor shots. So you go on photo.net, also?

Yes, the work there is incredible. When I really want to be astounded by photographic beauty, that's where I head. It usually inspires me, and ALWAYS makes me feel a little frustrated at my own pace

I plan on starting a photo.net gallery once I get better at scanning and digital processing my work.

On the other hand, photographyreview is where I head when I want the experience of community in the photographic world!

Have to agree with that. There are some very good people over there talent wise. I do have a small gallery. I am not a subscriber at this point, but I am looking into it. Here is a link to my gallery there. http://www.photo.net/photos/myutmostphoto

Not all of them are that good. I hope to replace some of them as I get some better shots.

Hey, those are great! Right up there with the rest of photo.net!

I'll have to get a portfolio going up there. I am just too intimidated by the talent

Thanks, Rick. I sometimes do not think I am as good as people around me tell me that I am. It has really taken time for me to have any kind of confidence in my work.
