    Ask a busy person!

    Hey everyone,
I have been slammed crazy busy between work, graphics freelance and, oh yeah, life. But I keep snapping! This week I photographed a bunch of performances for my friend Pavel. He's fast becoming a lauded choreographer (Princess Grace Award!) won a grant to do a site-specific public art performance at the Staten Island Ferry Terminal all week. It was a challenge to photograph with the combination of ambient and electric light, trying not to get in the way of the performance, or trip over commuters. There were moments of spontenaiety, especially on Wednesday when a regular guy just started dancing with them as a lark, then really got into it and didn't do a half bad job! It's amazing how people react to public art and let the moment take them away.

I put the photographs of HALT! on my website. Thanks for looking!

Next week, I'm off to Vegas to shoot for a client...

Megan, these are cool. I know this must have been very tough as there is no lighting on them other than the ambient light and so i think you came off with some great work. I have not been to the ferry terminal since they rebuilt the place and it looks pretty amazing.
Best of luck to you in Vegas!

Thanks. Monday, the sun was out so I could shoot @ 400 - but Wednesday was raining, so it was really hard to get something decent. I was up to 1600 I think... lots of noise, and contending with green tones (especially cast from the LED sign. Gah.) I made it work!

Never seen any public choreography but I live in the sticks.
I do watch So You Think You Can Dance, and I'm amazed at the art and skill.
Maybe your friend will choreograph for them someday.

Great shots especially under the circumstances.
    Keep Shooting!

Hey I like those with the dancers in front of the message board. Were their choreographic moves timed to coincide with the messages or was that the photographer's skill?

    Thanks for sharing your work!

    Re: Ask a busy person!

That was the photographer's skill! Since it was site-specific, I really did my best to frame the dancers within the site - e.g. using the EXIT signs, message boards, etc. One of my favorites is the one where it's really blown out and Lindsey is a blur with "lack of sleep can affect the..." above it.
