Anyone Know ...?

... whatever happened to Charles Campbell? He wrote a very good book on backpacking photography awhile back (see below), and the internet shows he taught classes there for awhile, but all his websites are down now. I was looking to possibly take a photography class this summer, perhaps by him, but looks like he just vanished.

Thanks Medley. This would explain it. But, how do you know the fellow's age? That book didn't come out that long ago and he didn't look any older than his 40s or maybe early 50s.

The book is copyright 1994, which would make it 18 years old. I realize that to you and me, that's "not that long ago".

I do a lot of valuing books online for my local library. I use mostly Amazon and ABE Books, but I've been known to search others. I did a search last night after I saw this thread, and somewhere in one of the author's descriptions, it mentioned he was born in 1923. I just did the math. BTW, that would make him 71 when the book was published. Could be the cover photo was a pic of himself that was taken "not that long ago".

Thanks for the clarification.. yeah, your research sounds legit. If he's 89 now he's either hung up his teaching and writing hats, or he's simply passed away. Not as dramatic as nearly suffocating as he describes in his book (due to an avalanche), but that's what happens. Really liked his book though ...

Hey Joe - I looked through the book a little closer. In the text info where the publication date is, etc, it says his name and "1951-", which I think means his birthdate. I can't figure any other reason for it, as the book was released much later. Also, did another search and found a lot of Charles Campbells out there, some born in 1923. Perhaps the 1923 was for a different guy?
