    Another first..

Here is another first for me. Yes I know how common these creatures are for you guys in the southwest and west, but we don't gottem in KY. So I was excited not only to see one (then of course hundereds of more before we left) but to get one to stop and pose for me under a mesquite bush was great.

Isn't it an ordinary every day jack rabit? I'm not 100% certain, becaue most jackrabits I see are in road kill condition, and the still breathing ones I see are hopping away as fast as they can, besides, they are usually out at night anyway...

You wanna know what's wierd? I've lived in the Mojave desert for 20 years of my life, and it wasn't until just recently that I saw my first cottontail!

A Jack Rabbit it is and we saw gobs of them mostly in the evening hours when this photo was taken around 8 PM. There were plenty of cotton tails too, but I see them everyday in the backyard at home and didn't even try to get a picture. Here is another young lady that wouldn't let us very close to her, taken about the same time I took the above picture.

    Talking Grrrrrrreat!

Beautiful images OT. I absolutely LOVE that lil' ol' bunny! Nice catch on the deer too. But the bunny is my favorite. Beautiful settings. And you captured the subject perfectly. I do enjoy your photos a whole lot OT. You're an excellent photographer.

God, those are some odd looking animals. That Jackrabbit looks like my dog with a bunny's head.
Good work on these pictures, I enjoyed viewing.

Both were a first for me along with the road runner. I wish that I had been able to get a better image of the pronghorn antelope. They are very shy animals however and I felt good a about getting all four hoofs in the air at the same time. A large male came within 50 yards of my son's house while we were there but I was gone at the time. My wife got a kick out of telling me what I had missed. My son lives on a ranch in West Texas surrounded by oil wells and wildlife. The first pictures is looking up the drive at his house the second is the view from the gate in front of his house.

Thanks Liz I appreciate your comments. It was great to get to another part of the country and have the opportunity to take photos.

That's what I call "out in the middle of Nowhere". Very nice pics of Jackrabbit and Pronghorn - it's rare to get that close to the antelope for sure.

It's not the end of nowhere, but it is next door. It did make for some decent wildlife shots however. Sam kept telling me about all the critters around him, I didn't understand till I got there. He did however fail to produce a rattle snake for me. Maybe next time.

Strange looking, bunny, that's for sure. Thanks for posting these shots... don't see many critters in center city Philly, except for rodents. :-) Maybe I'll try to get a good "nature" shot of a rat.

That's kind of funny because there were suppose to be a lot of desert pack rats and we saw several nest, but no rodents. So I guess no matter where you live you have to content with them.

Those Jackrabbits! And they are FAST! I saw them when I was in Arizona, back in '85-'86. They had roadrunners there as well. So did you see any scorpions? If you kicked over some rocks, you would have found some, eventually.

WE call it "THE FOOD CHAIN"

and if you want rattlesnakes....... FLASHLIGHT at night along a blacktopped road through the desert areas ;)

too warm by day, road retains heat at night . remember that reptiles arm COLD BLOODED and need to regulate their body temp .

As close as we got to a scorpion was one encased in plastic that I bought as a souvenir for my sister. But my son did warn us to shake out our shoes each morning, you just never knew where they might end up.
