Sorry, couldn't resist this little twist lol. And it wasn't planned either!
Hubby was polishing his boots and I focussed on the polish not realising, that was 50ml too! haha.
And, before you ask, yes, I shot this with my 50mm f/1.8

The 1.2/full frame combo makes the bokeh as smooth as cream cheese! : )
Nice work. Is this shot straight out of the camera, or was there a little pp?

Yep even in the Seattle area well 30 miles north we got a little snow last night. Our Kids(oops I mean dogs) could spend hours on end in it especially Nanook the husky. Bummed this shot isn't as sharp as I wanted in the Husky's face oh well. Shot with 50mm 1.8

posted in the window light thread too. Shot w/ the 50mm f1.8. 400iso, f2.8 shooting Av mode, 125s. All have I have is the nifty fifty and the cheap kit lens that came w/ my camera, the 50mm stays on 99.9% of the time.

I just picked up this lens today, so far Im a little frustrated and dissa pointed with the results granted most of what I have shot have been indoors at night with the lights on but what I have shot so far is blury or not very sharp without a trypod is this to be expexted?

No this is not typical of this lens. Even under low light conditions with good technique and a shutter speed of 1/60 generally you can get good results. Which 50mm do you have and what were your settings?
Don't forget about the Gallery. Are your photos there??

Titan, I generally avoid the P mode and use Av mode for the most part. My shots above were all handheld (I rarely use a tripod). But I also used a bit of fill flash from my 550EX.

I don't see why you can't get sharp pictures from your lens unless it is defective.

thanks for the reply, bob btw I used every mode and took somewhere in the area of 100 pics tonight and the majoraty where not very sharp unless I used a tripod
If you are getting sharp images with a tripod than that would indicate that the problem is camera motion. Try aperture priority mode with your f stop on 1.8 and see if you get a shutter speed reading of 1/60 you should be able to hand hold and get acceptable sharp images. With good technique or bracing yourself against a good solid object you should be able to go even slower. The main thing is get out of P mode, the camera is averaging out shutter speed and aperture and is giving you too slow of a shutter speed. Adjust you ISO until you can get the shutter speed you need.
Don't forget about the Gallery. Are your photos there??

Great results Ray! And I LOVE those borders!

My images always seem so soft to me. Maybe it's my old age and my shaky hands.
I need to get a 50 mm with an IS on it haha.

    Re: Another 50mm f1.8 Thread

Im starting to think there is something wrong with the lens, I took the first shot in front of a big window with lots of natural light coming in no direct sunlight first pic was in av mode iso 400 f1.8 ss 1/400 btw the camera focused sharp as a tack throught the viewfinder and I have very steady hands.

the second one everything was the same except it was 1/200 ss

    Thanks James!

I believe the puppy is a Boston & Rat Terrier mix. Very cute now, but I have no idea what it will look like once full grown.

    Thank you Alison!

titan....Hmm...the only thing I can think of is to check your AF/M button on the side of the lens and make sure it's in the AF position.

    Ray

I double checked it is on af, when I focus its sharp as a tack through the viewfinder!

maybe I will just stick with the kit lens with is it seems to do a better job, which is odd
