    Amazing fog

This morning we had incredible fog, maybe 50 feet visible in front of you. With the snow it made for some incredible scenes, made me want to pick up a camera for the first time in a while.

So, why didn't you pick up the camera? I was hoping for pictures, Sebastian!

    Coulda, woulda, shoulda... :)

Ok, I'm not gonna beat you up over this, as I see stuff everyday that I know would be great to shoot, and yet I don't...

Still, it sounds like a good opportunity to capture some cool images. We've been getting a lot of fog here, too (no snow, heh heh), but the only way to shoot it is early in the morning, and THAT ain't gonna happen...

I'm glad to see you made it through to the new year...

    Re: Amazing fog

It sounds like I am not the only one that has lacked photographic initiative lately. The days have been so gray and uninviting that I have just not been able to get in the mood to get the camera out and try and make something out of nothing. I did take a lot of family photos over the holiday, but more a record of events than any thing else. I want very much to get out and get a few photos but just lack the motivation. I am praying for those first days of Spring and sunshine that will inspire me to grab the camera and head outdoors.

Wow. I wish you'd posted some pics. I'd like some pointers on fog photography. I get that kind of fog here in the foothills of the northern Cal all the time, but no snow. Makes for really nice scenery, but I can't seem to capture the fog the way I see it with my eyes.

It's been in the 70's all week. It's suppose to hit 76 today. And all this warm weather has given us fog the first few days of this week. The lovely wife went out back a couple of nights ago, and commented about it, and what a cool picture it would make. So I grabbed the Coolpix 5700 and my tripod and took a few shots. Manual mode, 8 seconds, f3.6.

John Shaw says the most common mistake people make when shooting fog is thinking that it's a middle tone. It's actually brighter than middle tone, so when people shoot it at the metered value, it comes out dark. Try adding +1.0 EV to your exposure as a starting point. And of course, brackett. With your digital, you can immediately check the results. My two cents worth.

We've had that fog here too. Except it made me want to lay in the blankets all day, as opposed to go out and take pictures.

    I remember this scene...

It was from an episode of The X-files, wasn't it?

This was taken at night? Cool shot. What was the light source?

The light source was a security light in the neighbor's backyard. It backlit the fog quite nicely. It also gave it that yucky green color, but I guess that adds to the mood in this case. ;-)

Taken on 8 June 2004. My buddy Brian and I got up at Oh-Dark-Hundred to photograph Venus transiting the sun. Two of my daughters went with me. These are a couple of shots from that morning.

Angry Now I can sort of relate.........

I've been waiting to get some time to take my digital Rebel out, but haven't done it in a while except to take some home pictures of friends.

Today we got that FOG. I was so excited when I woke up this morning because I had decided last night to go to NYC today and didn't even know we were going to have fog. However, I had a migraine when I woke up. Now some migraines I can handle, but some I can't. This one was a biggie, but I was determined to go. I grabbed my gear and took off to the bus parking lot..........no spaces. So I went home.

It's 3:20 p.m. and the fog is going away, and my headache is still there..........so much for pictures in and of the FOG!

Poor girl! I hope you feel better soon. I get migraines from time to time. Fortunately, they are gettting less frequent as I get older. Unfortunately, I'm now getting cluster headaches. And I'm told they are common to men in their 40's, and that they will continue. Oh goody!

If a normal headache is a 1, a bad headache is a 2, and a full blown migraine (light hurts, sound hurts, and you don't care if you die because at least the pain will stop) is a 10, then cluster headaches range from a 7 to a 9.

As for the fog photo's you didn't get, as Scarlett O'Hara said, "Tomorrow is another day." You will get another chance.

    Take care.
