    Alison inspired me...

to shoot some window light portraits. I grabbed the two closest subjects I could find, my wife and son!

    One of my wife, Collette:

My son, Gus, laughing at my attempts to take his photo:

I moved him into the light:

It's amazingly difficult to get an almost 3 year old to sit still long enough for my Mk1 50mm to focus on him!

Tell me about it! Just getting them to position their face perfectly in the light is a task in itself! LOL

very cute. you might want to adjust your white balance, they look just a bit orange.

    The second is my favorite.

So, the Doctor is in...and amused.

"It's amazingly difficult to get an almost 3 year old to sit still long enough for my Mk1 50mm to focus on him!"

    Yes, indeed.

So I notice you mentioned it is a Mk 1 50mm. Let me guess, it's time to upgrade to a faster 50mm - say a Mk II?

You're clever buddy. Go ahead and tell Collette that Speed says you need a faster 50mm. Preferably, a f 1.4.

Boy isn't that the truth! I took a lot and got a few. Even fewer in the really good light. But I did get some and you inspired me to sit down and try...Thanks!!

Actually that's about the right color. It was from the setting sun which was very orangy/red.

Only sort of amused. I tried to take more and the amusement went away! She does NOT like to have her photo taken. This is the BEST shot I've ever taken of her though.

    If I thought that would work I'd try. But I've been angling for an 85mm f/1.8 first! ;

    Good for you!

The 85mm f1.4 is on my wish list...

Tell her Speed says you need one of those as well.

I never claimed to have any pull.

I just said "tell her I said you need one". Which you do!

She said I could get one if you'd pay for it. See the abuse I get!

    BTW she said hello.

She's only saying that because she knows, only too well, that she will fall victim to the new lens LOL.

LOL, I hadn't looked at it that way. It's funny that you use the word "victim" because that's how she acts when I take a photo of her.

I know the victim thing. Mine only posed recently because her agent needed a shot for publicity purposes. I will get to shoot her again when her latest book is published in about 6-8 months. I like the shots by the way. I'll be using my 50/1.8 and 100/2.8 on my neighbor's 8 month old pretty soon. I'm trading a portrait, for the neighbor replacing a control valve on my pool heater. Ya gotta love barter.

Hey Michael, barter is a great thing. Been there done that!!

Nice thing about an 8 month old, they don't move very far or very fast. Ha! Post some if you get a chance.
