    After the burn

This is what the after effects of sitting a bucket of hot coals on your front porch looks like.

    The aquarium looks good.

That inhales deeply!!! I hope everyone got out safely and there is a lot of insurance to cover the losses.

That's so sad to see. Hope nobody was hurt or worse.

Been to plenty of those, but none who were smart (sarcastic) enough to put hot coals on a wood porch
We did have one guy who used a bunch of keroscene heaters in what was basically a plywood house and stored the keroscene on the enclosed front porch where he filled them while still lit. Oh, did I mention that the front porch was also filled with hundreds of boxes of rifle and shot gun shells?
Lets put it this way, when I dispatched the call the first unit on radio was the farthest away and he saw smoke already. By the time the first truck got there from just down the road 6 or 7 blocks away the house was fully engulfed. There were 12 kids and 5 adults there, all got out OK, but everyone was ducking from all the ammo that was exploding. DOH! Where is common sense?

I ran our tanker on this run, I was doing water supply. I did not get to see the damage until 2 days later. Everyone got out ok. It is the season, clean and replace those furnace filters. Stay smart, it only takes 3 minutes to go fully involved. Change your smoke detector batteries.

    Re: After the burn

I lived in San Diego for 4 years -- hated the Santa Annas. I was in Oakland when it went up... helping friends evacuate. And, then my in-laws lost their place in Inverness when the Pt. Reyes fire sprang up. Kids had been illegally camping.

When it's that crazy windy and hot, fire that we normally think of as tame (lighter, cig.) just isn't safe.

Common sense? in very short supply these day's. It seems that the more letters behind the name the less common sense people have. (I have a daughter that BLOND jokes do apply to! and she is not blond).

Also watch out for rages that are used for staining, a family left the rages on their deck and lost their house.

Thats very sad. I'm glad everyone was ok. Looks like the poor fishies didn't make it though (I have four tanks and a pond.. I like fishies.)
