    Question 70-200L vs. Sigma 135-400

Ok, well I've been wanting to get the 70-200L f/4 for a while now and just haven't had the time to order it. I was on www.canogacamera.com and I saw the Sigma 135-400 f/4.5-5.6 for $518 and the 70-200L for $579. I'm planning on ordering within a few days and was just wondering if anyone would recommend one over the other? I know the L series lense will probably have better picture qualtiy, but the Sigma lense has a much larger zoom. This will ony be my second lense with my other one being the lense that comes with the DRebel lense kit. I don't know wich I want more, picture quality or larger zoom. I don't want bad picture quality but I woildn't mind having the extra zoom.Could some one just help me out a little? Does the Sigma have bad image quality? I'm also looking for it to last me a long time considering I'm always on a very tight budget. Thanks all!!!!

If it was me, I would get the Canon 70-200 f/4L lens for the glass. You probably will find that the f/stops of the Sigma lens will disappoint you especially in low light situations. Remember the Canon is F/4 across the whole zoom range where the Sigma is not, it is larger at the lower end than the upper end.

Atleast that is what I feel about it. I have a Canon 75-300 IS lens and I am not that happy with it, especially the way it hunts around with focusing.

When I get the money I will be getting at minimum the Canon 70-200 f/4L (would like the IS one f2.8 but the cost difference is too huge), the other I would look at also is the Canon 100-400 L lens as well, I think PaulNJ (BirdNerd) has one and he really likes it.

I assume you are in the USA somewhere by the prices you are quoting as well.

    Hope that helps.

    YES, I love my 100-400IS , and I liked my 170-500 sigma!

but the 135-400 sigma is........EEEHHHHH, NO THANKS .

70-200f4L is a great lens, tokina 80-400 is BETTER than the sigma 135-400 and the TOP lens to get(in a zoom) is the 100-400IS. I suggested a 170-500 to Gene, but he is having trouble, SO I REFUSE TO SUGGEST IT ANYMORE(though I had very little problems with it)
