First Wedding Photographed

Well I photographed my first wedding on Sunday and I am still alive. I just wanted to thank all of you who gave me advice a few weeks ago. I ended up shooting 5 rolls of film and my husband dropped it off at the lab for processing today. Now if I manage not to worry myself to death before it’s ready I’ll post some when they come in.

Getting the heart pumped while waiting to get the prints back is part of the excitement of shooting film. My first wedding had me not worrying about whether the images were good or not, but hoping there were actually exposures on the negatives. I'm sure they'll be fine and, if you can, post some here.

Is the toughest one. My wife volunteered me to shoot my first wedding. I had my camera for 3.5 months at that point. It was an adventure, to say the least. It was also a great learning experience.

Relax. I'm sure you did fine. By all means, post some of the shots when you get a chance.

I called the lab today and they are ready so at least I know they printed and I don't have blank rolls . I'll post some after I pick them up at lunch tomorrow.

I remember my first, and only wedding (so far). I took about 8 rolls that day and night with nothing but my Rebel G. No tripod and no lighting, other than the built in flash on the camera. It was a little nerve racking waiting to find out how things turned out. Some came out pretty good, and others were so-so. I did it for nothing because they were friends of mine and they were happy with the results so it all worked out. The grooms little brother even asked me (read begged me) to do his wedding. I turned him down tho. There's was a little more formal than the older brothers and I figured I would let a pro handle it for them.

I took my first wedding this past December.

I remember my dad used to take a lot of weddings for friends, and I remember the cycle he'd go through: agree to do it; regret agreeing; dread the day; double-check equipment the week before; nerves of actually doing it; getting the family and wedding party to listen to you during group shots; nerves waiting for the lab; excitement at seeing the photos; showing them to the happy couple; vowing to never do that again; agreeing to the next one and the cycle continues. He finally stopped agreeing when he started charging just enough to cover the cost of upgrading his equipment, and by charging, he became an "employee" of the couple rather than someone doing them a favor. He hated that change in attitude.

I used my Rebel Ti AND my brand-new DRebel for the wedding. Nothing on a tripod at all, and used natural lighting wherever possible. The pictures turned out GREAT!!!!! I loved having the security of the digital...I doubled each shot, one with the D, one with the 35mm. I knew I had at least one of each shot. And between the two cameras, I got some really great shots.

I'm not sure I'd do it very often though. But I'm glad I got the chance to give it a try.

Charles, you shot weddings? Was this in the past couple years? What I wouldn't give to see your take on a wedding.
