    1D fault

Had to be on my first time at Indy.
Not sure if it's lens, or body.
    But it's a whole day's work wasted

And no, it's not enough to make me switch to Nikon.
    Not quite.
But disappointing since both cameras went into Canon for a clean specially for Indy

Is that from the sensor messing up or what? I guess it is a mark 2 or 3?

    Indy yeah!!

I'll be in my usual spot high atop turn one on Race Day. Mostly for the hell of it as my usual customers have cut way back. Still got the access.

Are you shooting for someone? Are you going to be real busy on Sunday or should I try to find you?

    Re: 1D fault

We're out supporting Martin Plowman #27 in the Indy Lights.
Will be there today for the Freedom 100
He's got us pit/garage access for his race
Last minute Martin's girlfriend (Miss Indiana) was asked to sing the National Anthem for the Freedom 100 !

Not sure where I'll be on Sunday, only have cold pit access.
So we may watch from his motor home, or somewhere.

    You have a PM...

    It's a shutter fault. 1DmkIIN.
I suppose it's lasted 5 years, not sure when I bought it.

almost look like you've got a pinhole or some damage to the edge of one of the blades.. Bummer.
    It's not about the camera....

    Re: 1D fault

I've got the 1DSmkII, but that won't get more than one shot a lap of the lead group.
Plus I lose the 1.6x crop factor.
I suppose next trip I may have to bring another spare body...

And I'll only buy a mkIV if I have to, because I'd really like to wait for the mkV in case it has the articulated screen I want...

    Re: 1D fault

Chris, the shutter motion is vertical, horizontal.
So the big black diagonal is a trailing shutter leaf, and the white horizontal is the blades sticking as they close.

I think you mean 1.3x crop factor?

    Re: 1D fault

Good catch, thanks. Brain not connected to finger.
I might have been thinking of the 20D sitting at home, neglected, that would have been a great backup camera.
But I have limited weight allowance on hand luggage, and no-one will insure cameras for international travel unless hand carried because of the TSA regulations that mean you can't lock your cases!

    Re: 1D fault

Paul, you should be able to lock your luggage, you just have to have a tsa approved luggage lock. The tsa locks have a way that tsa officials can open them, but still require a key/combo. Just do a search for TSA locks. Lots of links pop up.
