Hello,

I'm a beginner photographer and want to take some fashion photos for a friend designer. The budget for the shoot is minimal, and would like some of your opinions on lighting. I have reseached fluorescent lighting for digital photography and I'm considering it due to the low cost and even lighting.

Being in Montreal, Canada in the middle of winter, we will shoot indoors, on a white background, using a Canon D20. The photos are for a small brochure/catalog. I have two choices in lighting:

1. Rent tungsten heads and difuusers.
2. Buy high frequency high CRI fluorescent fixtures at about the same cost as the rentals.

Questions:

1. Being a beginner, I wonder if it is easier to set-up the fluorescent fixtures for even diffused lighting of the models, say using one fixture per side and one front top, maybe one behind for the white background? (4 ft fixtures, 2 or 4 tubes each)

2. To achieve ok results from tungsten, what size/power would I need?

Thank you,

Michael
