XC, not as fun a DH, but...

Finally had a chance to go shoot again.

    C&C at will.

Still not popping the rider as much. I am metering the trail. rolling down until I am a 1 step (one big line right?) under-exposed. flash on 1/4 power, manual mode, lense I think was at 35mm, I zoomed the flash to 50mm.

Branden you did fine. It's hard to get the rider to "pop" under hard daylight lighting conditions.

If I had done the same shot, my settings would have been closer to:
    ISO 200
    1/80
    f/16-20

I would have lowered the exposure so it was about two stops under-exposed and blasted the rider with fill flash while panning. That will help you get the "pop" you're looking for.

Where abouts is this fire road? Looks like it's hot and dry there.

    Morgan territory.

I have a chance to go shoot some dirt jumping in Davis tomorrow..

here are some pont and shoot pics of the place.. any tips?

Lot more shade and contrasting light.. getting worried about blowing out portions of the photos.

Also, last thursday, I got to watch a pro in action, a freelancer who shoots for Powder, Bike Mag etc. (he was shooting us clowning around with the rideSFO van, for novermber issue of Bike Mag)

We were talking, he like to run his flash on ettl, and zoom in on the flash.

Thnx for the tips on the iso and f stop. I tend to get stuck in just shooting f 5.6 and adjusting off that.

Oh, I am also shooting in RAW now, using the program from canon to do the tweaks, then off to CS2

I think you did great as well. Shooting in the midday sun is always fun & sometimes tough.

I've got a sister in Davis that I'm gonna be visiting next month, I might have to go find out where those jumps are
