What a difference a day (game) makes.

After photographing nothing but night games in poorly lit stadiums this season, I finally got to shoot a day football game. What a difference it makes to be able to shoot at a low ISO and still have action freezing shutter speeds. Even with a 1.4x teleconverter on my Nikon 70 - 200mm f/2.8 VR lens. All were shot with my recently acquired D300 body.

Here are two of the above photos cropped much tighter (both were touchdown scoring plays):

Great action! I agree that it's great to get to use your equipment to its full capabilities and only conditions like this allow you to do it.
Don't forget about the Gallery. Are your photos there??

Shooting football during the day is great, night games can be very rough. Nice job.

Thanks O.T. & Jim. If the Texas State Bobcats win this Saturday they're in the playoffs. I'm hoping to photograph that game if it's anywhere in the state of Texas. Hopefully it'll be an afternoon game too.

BTW, the 8 fps of the D300 makes a big difference over the 4 fps of the D200. I very well could've missed some of those shots if I had been shooting with the D200.
