    USSPA? Feedback requested....

No, I'm not referring to the USS Pennsylvania.

My rant from last week had me thinking about starting an association for those interested in Sports Photography. Something like SportsShooter.Com, but more open and dedicated to helping both hobbyists and professionals as well as promoting the field.

I did a google search on the topic, and the only consistent site that came up was SS.com, so I think this idea is long overdue. I also Googled a potential name - the United States Sports Photography Association, and as far as I can tell, its not taken.

I know the idea isn't very well developed right now, but I would love to have some feedback from other readers on this forum. What do you guys think? Would you be interested in an organization that was devoted just to sports photography?

I agree there IS a gap. Some at SS are willing to help, however the majority do not.

I have webspace available, and a whole lot of bandwidth available as well on my site. And as I said in the prior post, I think there is a lack of sports related magazine/photography as well. I have thought about this for the past 4 years. I just don't have the funds at the moment to "start it", not that it would cost much. I even have a few writers lined up if I can ever get something together.

I wish. This type of thing takes time, JT. And some money, I think...

To be honest, I've only help set up two things like this in my life. The first was a cakewalk because my school's student senate will just hand out money to clubs and the other was a computer business that didn't go according to plan because my main client backed out on me and I didn't have the funds (or time) to advertise. I don't even want to attempt that venture now that Best Buy moved into the area with their Geek Squad service.

What all would you want to put on the site initially? Forums and reviews? There are plenty of free forums you could use, and reviews are easy enough to add in, once you have them written.

After you get reviews of equipment that is already owned, and get traffic, it will give you good footing to try and talk manufacturers into sending equipment out to be reviewed.

Is there anything I can do to help? I'd love to have more focused and directed sports photography content here. For one, this forum could use a moderator. But if you want to use it to build a group or develop your idea, feel free. Let me know if there's anything I can do to help. As far as bandwidth goes, there's not really any limit here. As long as it's good for this site, I can help.
