    Twilight racers

Last weekend I headed to Athens (Ga) for some night time shooting at the Twillight Criterium. I just wanted to mess around with the various functions and play with the ISO and shutter speeds, since I am still learning the ins and outs of the camera, to see what I could get.

I know that I have plenty of practicing to do, but I still drum up a good shot here and there .

This shot is of a rider from the Toyota team coming out of turn two with a couple of others in tow.

    Re: Twilight racers

I'll be glad to share what I can ... I just had to look the data up.

This was handheld @ 1/8 of a sec F9.0 with the ISO @ 1600 and I used the fill flash from the camera. I have only cropped the pic and it is about 70% of the original frame.

From another thread (on MTBR actually), I had heard of 1st curtain and 2nd curtain sync, which I have now looked up. W/ the 1st curtain sync, the flash fires when the shutter has just opened so the subject is lit and then due to a slow shutter speed the subject is captured moving after the flash fires and before the shutter closes. This makes it appear as if the motion is in front of the subject. W/ 2nd curtain sync, the shutter opens for the desired time and the flash fires just before the curtain closes. 2nd curtain sync would produce a "normal" image with the motion behind the subject.

Now I have to dig back into the manual to play with this setting. Learning something new each day!
