I haven't used that camera / lens combo so I don't know how the auto focus performance is. I can't quite remember how the sport setting works, either. Auto focus is always my biggest concern with action photos, though. If your photo isn't in focus, it's no good. Are you using one auto focus point and trying to keep it on the action? That's what I'd do. Letting the camera choose what to focus on will let you down too often. I think you'll find most of the sports shooters here select one point and keep it on our subject.Originally Posted by moogy675
The other thing to work on is shutter speed. In general, a sports scene mode will keep the shutter speed fast to freeze action. But it's still an auto mode and it may not always do exactly what's best. I suggest you try using shutter priority, which allows you to choose the shutter speed and then sets the appropriate aperture for you. Some of the images you posted have some motion blur and could benefit from a faster shutter speed. Are you paying attention to what shutter speed was used in these photos? It wouldn't hurt to do some analysis to get an idea of what shutter speed you need to freeze the kids in action.
