For those of you who need a soft hood

For those of you who need a soft hood, here is a very cheap, workable way to get one on a real tight budget....this one cost a whole whopping $3.69! It's a simple rubber connector for PVC pipe. They come in all different sizes, and if you need to you can cut it down so it doesn't get in the way when zooming. Normally you can cut it to the length of your original hood, but take into account the added length to mount it on the lens. Also take the clamp off of one end so it doesn't distort the open end. You can also use this for a replacement hood instead of forking out $40 or more for a new hood!

lol, actually I saw someone use it a pro basketball game. You must have a soft hood to shoot NBA games so thats what he had. This one is 3", and fits both my 70-200 & 28-300 perfectly. I will use it at high school basketball games this year.

    Excellent!

That's great - especially when Canon doesn't include lens shades and charges $30-40 for them. The only problem is that it won't work for wide lenses.

    Re: Excellent!

Actually... it will! I think they make these up to 8" or 12" in various sizes. I saw one shooter at a Pacers or Colts game with either a 400 or 500 with one on his. They cost more, but so do those hoods. I know Lowes, Home Depot an Carter Lumber carry the normal sizes, but could probably order larger sizes. I got lucky, both my main lenses take same size, even fit in the same case.

Can you get spray on Felt for the inside?
A little ingenuity can go along way!

Ummm, I doubt it but you never know Jimmy. The nice thing is it also saves the lens and gives less shock than the stock plastic lens hoods.
