    Something a little different

One of my local HS girls BB teams asked me to do a poster for them so I went to a pre-game shoot around yesterday afternoon and took a couple of shots of them. The poster will be black background (also one of the school colors) and they said they wanted to look "bad". This entire shoot was done with small flashes.

2 Sunpak 383s at 1/2 power fired through white shoot-thru umbrellas on stands about 45 degrees either side of camera. One Quantaray 370 on stand in the rear with 3/4 CTO gel facing toward camera at full power.

I really liked the first one. Which lens did you use? This is so cool, giving me ideas.....
So the gym was dark except for the lighting you used in the back, is that correct??

the first one is AWESOME. I think the team logo on the floor really ads to the shot for someone like me not knowing who they are it gives them a sense of identity. Thelighting worked extremely well. Nice work.

Nice, I agree the one with the logo is best, but it appears to me the very front subject is very soft in both photos.

    Re: Something a little different

Thanks guys! The lens was a Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 stopped down to about f8. The main lights were off in the gym but the side lights over the bleachers were on. The secret to blacking out the background is high shutter sync speed which the D50 does for me wonderfully. Also, keep in mind that these have had virtually no PP done on them except some very slight curves adjustment and auto contrast. Oh yea, and I cloned out 3 ceiling lights over the stands in the back.

A second look and you may want to do some work under the second girl on the left side (from center) that kind of caught my eye the second look.

Nice job Daniel. I like it when us sports types get a little creative.
Don't forget about the Gallery. Are your photos there??
