Re: Some Downhill MTB On A New California Race Course
not bad. a bit wide in my opinion. needs to be tighter next time :P
the second picture's orientation is a bit weird and throws me off..
did you use flash in these? cuz everything looks a bit too bright (it kinda looks flat), there's no more contrast between the subject and background. it sorta looks like a fixed set up in the outdoors rather than live action.
that's just my oppinion, correct me if i said anything wrong

anyways, other than that good job!
Yeah I did not do much if any BG pulling. I shot for the Background and filled rider with flash. I can easily darken them a ton. Maybe I will mess with it some and mask rider out from the background and darken them up. I like the flat look more now that contrast in most instances. I think if I had a camera that could do 6400 OK I would not have strobed some of these. Shutter speeds were to slow for my liking as well.....
Re: Some Downhill MTB On A New California Race Course
I can see a bit of motion blur so I agree that the shutter speeds were a bit slow. Did you pre-order your EOS-1D X yet?
I think the last one works the best. Is the rock feature the same in the first and last photos?
The second one has way too much tilt for my taste. Tilting photos to make the terrain look steeper is a pet peeve of mine, though. It feels like cheating. I see it all the time in ski magazines and it always jumps right out at me.

Where's the new course?
John no that is the course top to bottom. Every Pro that went through the rock field ate it in practice at last race, Kendall-Weed and Medaglia where swearing whole way through it! It is in Santa Margarita just above SLO. I had to angle it like that I had the 70-200 on and didn't have time to swap lenses. I didnt want to go to far into brush with mother bear and cubs running around. I let Richard chase her instead. Yeah most were at 1600 ISO...:mad2:

Medaglia! I've known Anthony since he was still in college!
