    Soccer has begun again.

After what seemed like forever. It's back. I had a rough game, I was out of practice.

Great action snap. The blown out background is a bit distracting but we have to put up with what's there. Sunlight is a bit harsh on his face and legs as well but again, you deal with what you get. Nice job.

Thanks. You are very kind! It was a tough 1st day out for the season. I would not be exaggerating if I told you it was the worst light I ever worked with.

    These were typical

Any advice? I moved around, I played with everything I could think of. I was dumbfounded?

Been there done that a million times. At least you posted what you got and they weren't all PS'd images that were ultra perfect. With what we do sometimes you gotta deal with the elements and it's not easy. With the harsh light you're either going to get some blownout highlights or if you try and tone those down you'll get super dark shadows. It is what it is and you did a decent job with what you were given.

The last shot is well done in those conditions.

Great shots of the action regardless of them being blown out. The last one looks like the better of the four.

just a general question to everyone else on the forum about lighting-

In these conditions would using the exposure compensation help much?

Here it looks like huge dynamic range from black shirts in shadow to white shirts in sunlight, then setting the exposure manually may be the best option, check the histogram to see whether you're clipping the shadows or highlights.
You may have to choose which you want to lose, highlight or shadow.
