Well i spent 4 days in keystone and was lucky to see an event of 8-15yr olds. I wish i had no fear again.

I don't think I'd let my 8 year old do that though....I'd rather have em racing on a track.

I wish that it as just a fire. These were fire cannons which made it difficult to focus in on.

I particularly like #2, where it looks like he's riding the fire, very good timing.
#3 is good too, did you use flash? The skis look illuminated.
#4 is fantastic, the snow billowing up behind him and the colour of the right hand fire burst.

Sometimes it takes a little luck like that, most of the other cannon bursts are washed out but that #4 stands out over #5 because of the extra colour in the fire.

Thanks, I used the flash 430 but i dont think it helped much. They had some mega lights on the ski jump. But with the flames, light, snow on the ground and snow falling made these difficult for me. Plus i was shaking like crazy because i was so cold.

It's neat that you posted these right after I came back from Utah and my ski trip.

Are these cropped images or is the noise the result of a high ISO setting?

I wish they were a little tighter and felt sharper. That's part of why I asked whether they were cropped. They just don't quite feel right. I like the first one the most because of the skier's position. But I think it needs to be adjusted so the skier is brighter and maybe the whole thing could be a little tighter. Not to knock your accomplishment, though. I can see how these would have been really, really hard to expose. Can you tell us about how you set your exposure and decided on settings? I'm curious about what kinds of decisions/compromises you had to make.

Yea i cropped and lightned these up I was away from the top of the jump and only had my 28-135, I didnt want to take my 28-300L on this trip.
I bumped it up to 800iso trying to avoid it being very grainy. I tried to use sports setting and it didnt work. so i ended up using TV changing it several times. Between 60-120. Some of the grain may be due to the snow falling. It was about -4 out with the wind chill i tried to find a setting fast so i could get these guys and put my gloves back on.
