    Saturday Soccer Action

Just so you guys don't think I don't shoot anything besides mtn biking. Technically this is my 2nd attempt at soccer, but my first was only a brief attempt with a pos variable aperature lens so I don't count that one. I know a couple of the backgrounds are less than ideal, but there just wasn't much I could do about them. I started out shooting manual, but I just couldn't keep up with the changing light fast enough as the sun kept coming in and out of light and dark clouds. I gave up and shot most of the day in AV mode. I'll tell you one thing though, I have a whole new level of respect for anyone that gets a good header shot at the moment of contact. I tried all day and never even came close.

Your soccer shots are outstanding. Nothing bad to say. The color, sharpness, and DOF look great. Nice expressions from the kids.

I love shooting hockey except for the bad lighting. This year I need to start asking to shoot from the penalty box. No more glass or shooting down from the stands.

    Re: Saturday Soccer Action

Thanks Jeta. Like I told JS, it's all the hockey I shot last Winter. Between the speed of the game and the crappy lighting, I think it's one of the hardest sports to shoot. I figure it's just good practice and makes soccer seem just a little easier  Plus the better focusing on the 30D gets me more keepers than with the 350D.

Nice job.... I like the timing on these. It is very difficult to get the ball on the foot like you did.

    Very nice..

    Re: Saturday Soccer Action

Thanks. Those should all have been shot with the 30D and Sigma 70-200 f2.8. I had my Rebel with the Tamron 28-75, but I didn't take too many shots with that so I don't think any of these are from the Rebel. The 70-200 is a sweet lens and I know you'll enjoy it. What body do you have?

    Re: Saturday Soccer Action

I think for the header shot you need to shoot a quick series of frames..... and keep hoping....

To the exception of a some ttilt i saw in a couple of shots.... nothing else can be said to either improve or correct....

Those are very nice shots .... i know soccer intimately.... and i can tell you these rank hjigh on my scale.... Congrats on a great job!

So what are you thinking of getting? I haven't shot with an XTI, but the difference in teh focusing speed between the XT and the 30D is pretty significant. After shooting these soccer games I don't even want to touch my XT any more and I've decided to sell it and put the money towards a 40D
