Pre race entertainment - Freestyle Motocross

Before Saturday (May 24th 2008) nights race (Crown Jewel 200 - NASCAR Canadian Tire series - Cayuga Ontario) they had a few Motocross freestyle jumpers visiting form Florida in attendance who put on a show for the crowd to get the adrenaline pumping before the race began. Somebody should've told him that most Canadians aren't a rowdy bunch....... and we apologize for that =)

White balance is off from #1 to #2 so I gotta go back and fix that. I like the balance in #2 better... am I right?

A little bit of editing to get the sequences here:

No fancy editing on this one... 2 bikes in the air.... for real:

WOW, great shots, looks like a lot of fun! I agree with you about WB. Try cropping some of the bottom out and see how they look.

Those are great shots, if you cropped out the bottom like Lori says, they would be supurb. Good job, and keep up the good work.

I agree it's busy, very busy with detail.
But if you crop out the bottom, you lose the impression of height.

What stood out to me was the softness, looks like 1/320 wasn't fast enough perhaps?
Knowing they've got to hit the ramp, I'd have used a wider aperture and faster shutter speed.

I am amazed at the editing skill to put these exposures together.

Re: Pre race entertainment - Freestyle Motocross

The softness was caused by my own stupidity. There are 2 settings for the in body IS. The first one stabilizes in all directions and the second setting stabilizes the verticals but allows you to move side to side panning. I forgot I had it on setting 1. So when I panned with the motion the camera locked on the fixed objects. I should've been focusing manually as well but I was lazy and had had a few too many wobbely pops when these guys came out. I also should've been using a faster shutter than I was. Over all this was an excellent learning experience for me for the first time out with a new camera body. But no excuses for the equipment... it was all the operators fault =)

As for the editing... thanks PAul. It wasn't really that hard but it was definitely time consuming with all that layering..
