December 31st was an epic powder day here in Salt Lak City. I took my skis and the Canon EOS 7D up to Alta for some, ummm, camera testing. And boy was it a good day. The snow was the best yet this season and I got in a ton of sorely needed ski photography practice. I didn't get any magazine covers but I am really psyched about the sequence below. Besides the fact that it was an awesome yardsale crash, it's a good example of why I bought the 7D. The 8 FPS frame rate allowed me to catch the whole thing and then pick the best shots. These are just a select five of twenty that I thought best represented the crash. Even more important than the frame rate is the auto focus performance. I shot this using the 7D's AI Servo continuous auto focus, which proved to be rock solid for ski photos. Every frame is in focus. That is huge for shooting action like this -especially from a camera that doesn't cost $5000.
