    Nice job there! Great capture.

Hmmm, bout the only thing is flash. However, for this you could probably just use Photoshops fill flash and get it.

Great to hear you got published too! So how many copies did you buy??? I got 5, sent one to my parents, another to my brother-in-law(yer) and kept the other 3.
    Keep it going!

Way to go JETA!! It is always a big thrill when you get your first pictures published. I have been busy trying to make a buck with the cameras for a change. Just set up a printroom.com account and have started getting my first orders. Easy way to market my images, but still takes a lot of time to edit and upload. But at least I don't have to get involved in the order and print phase. Just hope the investment pays off.
Don't forget about the Gallery. Are your photos there??

I'll have to play around with it. I'm looking at Amazon for a good book on Adobe Elements. I did touch this one up a bit and added some fill flash, but I know a teeny fraction of what I need to learn about that program.

Right now we have one copy, but the cool thing is my son was interviewed for this article! HUGE deal here because he's only in the 10th grade and the press is asking to talk to him.

When I look at this pic to me I don't see perfect focus. Some parts are not sharp.

Re: One of my pics that made the paper today.

Also let me clarify I got paid ZIP!

OT, I have a smugmug account that sounds like the account you have to sell your photos. If I ever sell I think this is the way to go.

Right now I'm going to sell pics for a teeny fee to the parents of the team. All money will go directly into the football program at our high school. I'm also putting together two DVD slide shows. Each player will get both DVD's at the banquet and we'll take orders if parents would like to buy any extras. All of that money will also go directly into the football program.

At this point I don't have any plans to sell for personal profit. I have another small business I'm just getting off the ground. Now I need to learn how to use my light tent for that biz.

ah thats ok about the pay... like my mentor for my senior project said...

shoot first for recognition. Shoot for pay later.

I think those are wise words from your mentor.

Can I ask you two of my simpleton questions? What speed would you think I shot that at & what speed would you shoot at? My shutter speed out of everything is the most confusing to me.

    Thank you so much!

Re: One of my pics that made the paper today.

By the look of the sharpness, I'd think you shot at about 640. I would have shot at the fastest that I could get, which, by the looks of it, is what you did. I probably would have kicked the ISO up to stop action better, but as you proved here, sometimes you don't need that extra shutter speed.

Thanks so much for the response!

I keep whining for a new camera. My iso only goes up to 1600. I'd really love to have it go to 3200 with minimal noise.

3200 with minimal noise is tough. Even the best cameras still have quite a bit of noise at 3200. I try to avoid shooting it if I can. WHat camera do you have? I just simply hacked my drebel.

I have a lot of happy parents in our football program now that I'm shooting pics of their sons. Don't forget the linemen making great blocks. My son is the starting RG and I've got some great shots of him "getting the job done."

The other linemen parents are especially appreciative because usually no one ever gets shots of the blue collar guys.

I also don't get paid zip on my photos. I'm lucky enough to have a great job, plus my wife and I own a real estate company. I also use Smugmug and like it a lot. I also put a very small ad for the wife's real estate endeavors, so she pays the 50/year smugmug fee.

About 600 pics at the last game, uploading about 400 of them. Some of the parents really love the 5 fps sequence shots the 20D is capable of. It's pretty cool.

Shoot in Small/Fine mode. That seems to be good enough for most photos up to 8x10 or so. Even then, I look at the Smugmug statistics and most of my hits are not for Original size, but for Large size. Go figger.

This is a labor of love. Since the only guy that ever took photos of our team and tried to sell them lives 250 miles away and only at 2 of our away games, I don't feel that I'm taking any money out of his pocket. The local newspaper photographer didn't even give me a return email when I offered to pay him for some shots of my kid. So, I feel like I'm in the clear when it comes to stepping on someone else's toes.

Scott, I couldn't agree more. A true labor of love . You put it PERFECTLY! I have so many parents thanking me over and over and OVER for taking pics of their kids. I love it! There is no place I'd rather be. I'm truly honored to be there doing this for our team.

Do you have a pic of your son? I'd love to see him. My son started the year as RG, but now he is LT. I make SURE I get TONS of linemen shots. They are the forgotten dudes & the guys who do their job so the guys in the back can do theirs. IMO, the heart and soul of the team.

For next year we are even talking about me doing the individual portraits and team pics for all 3 of our football teams. All money made will go right into the football program & I'm FREE! lol

I'd say the following order: 10D, 20D, 5D, 1D, 1D MKII and 1D MKII N and finally the 1Ds I & II in order of noise high to low. Nikons best comes in between the Rebel and the 20D. Nikon is three years or more behind on noise compared to Canon, but no other manufacture is close to them except Sony but they are working with Nikon and trying to catch up to Canon, both in noise reduction and FF technology. (FF = full frame which = 35mm)

Holy cow! That's one HUGE great looking son you have there.

My son is a starting sophomore too for varsity. Usually most juniors don't start so this is a pretty neat deal for my guy. He's so proud of himself as are we, his parents. So please brag, cuz I want to also!

This is my boy in the front of the pic and the boy to the right of him is my oldest son's best friend. My son is 6'2" and 266. The boy who is my oldest's bf is 6' 7". That kid has a size 16 foot. His feet next to mine are hysterical.

Re: One of my pics that made the paper today.

I'm not sure where in teh NW you are exactly, but in Texas 5A football (the most competitive), a sophomore that is starting is fairly unusual. Mine's only 6' and weighs in at 245. He's got great footwork, runs a very fast 40 and takes all Pre-AP and Honors courses. The straight A part ensures that we won't have to rely on football to get into college, although playing football on Saturdays is one his goals.

Heck, you are as bad as I am. No one else would take linemen pictures, so we had to drop big bucks and do it ourselves!

I had that Canon S2 I2 out there early on. I was griping about it to a friend and he just shut me down. He said, man, you got almost all of this season and two full seasons more. Go buy the good camera before the season is over and you regret it.

I love it when other people help drain my wallet.

yeah, I have the 300d as well. THe pics you see in the "nighttime lacrosse" thread are the ones taken on ISO 3200. If you do some past searches, you can see some of my bball threads I shot 1600 on.

I'm in Washington State outside of Seattle. Your son is "only" 6' 245? That is huge in my book! He sounds like a fine young man. You have so much to be proud of! The school my boys go to is 4A.

I'm totally as bad as you. I ALWAYS take plenty of the line pics. There is no one who does and those boys are always forgotten.

Your friends are right. My friends helped talk me into getting my new lens. Now I need to work over my spouse because I want a new camera too!

Good luck to you and your son. I hope you guys have a great season! Enjoy your sideline view too. It's the best to be standing right there where it's all happening.

Well dang. Mine doesn't go up to 3200. I'll go search for your pics. Thanks!
