    Nov. 9 Surf

I was at the cove on Sandyhook, NJ today. Finally getting used to shooting surf and also the raw workflow has worked wonders in editing this type of shot with such a different range from shadow to highlight.
    All were shot with a D70s and an 80-200 2.8 2ring.
    What do you think?

    Re: Nov. 9 Surf

I like the theme....#3 is my favorite, but if it were me I would crop about 1/2 of the sky out as the photo is too long for me, and the extra sky line doesn't work for me. I really like the way the surfer is looking at the surf.....real nice.

I have to agree with Don on the cropping. I think though I'd actually go in tighter to begin with, with say a 400mm lens, but thats just me.

    Re: Nov. 9 Surf

The problem on this shot is it's like shooting in the snow, and it throws the metering off so the shadows are too dark, while the white foam is blown out. It's probably best to do this in layers, one fixing the highlights and the other fixing the shadows. Zooming in on the surfer would bring him out, but you'd lose most of the wave.

Very nice photographs. I really like #1 and way the light is reflecting in the spray and the city scape on the horizon, very cool. And #3 is just an a very well composed image with a slight crop as other have meantioned. I like the way the surfer is looking back at the ocean. Nice job thanks for sharing this with us.
Don't forget about the Gallery. Are your photos there??

    Re: Nov. 9 Surf

    Some pretty good stuff here.

#1 is just a great capture of the rainbow in the spray, sports or not I like it.
#3 I not only would crop it, but think all the motion is left to right. The spray, the direction he's walking, and the way he's looking. I would want a bit of tension in the image, with him looking the other way.
#4 is great with the boat in the background.
