    not quite there

Just to show we're not all perfect, anyone else care to post some missed opportunities?

Timing is everything, and with so much fencing and clutter this is mis-timed considerably.

While I got the reflection in the mirror, and the helmet ...
... the orange shirts in the distance are distracting despite desaturating.

I wish they'd not used a white F1 demo car.

    Re: not quite there

Well this is just too easy. The hard part is deciding which of the many I have to choose from for this post.

Now how do you focus this thing again?

Hey Desmo, how are you liking your Yakuza?

Loving the Yakuza, 2 trips to northstar so far, and a couple local rides. Still learning some confidence (coming from riding XC and road) on what DH rig can handle. One thing I learned, I do not think this bike needs breaks. it is like my Thoroughbred, the faster you ride her, the smoother she gets.

Yeah once you get a bike that can handle it, speed is your friend. Basically it lets you ride on the top of the bumps rather than going into them. It can be hard to make that leap of faith, but once you do it's all good

Ahh.. a thread I can contribute to, lol. I really like this photo, but there's a misplaced head and other items cluttering a bit. But, I really liked the moment and cropped it the best I could.

    Re: not quite there

I like the "strawberry" thing (cropped) notwithstanding.
This is not a missed photo. The world will never adjust itself for any photographer's need.
There are people who think that a certain moment coud have been done better by a more skillfull photographer but this is absolutly illogical - no certain moment repeats itself, ever.

    See the attached picture.
This is why I hate digital ****! It's SONY-something 7.2 MPix with Carl Zeiss zoom. And It even doesn't know where to make focus! I never had problems with autofocus with my Dynax 5. Somehow he always new where my subject was. Better algoritms? Clever engeeneers? Who cares? Minolta's gone and Sony's goin to feed us up with china made digital **** and china made zeiss lenses. I begin to disregard Zeiss as well...
Not speaking about POOOOOOOR image quality, flare, lost shadows and burned highlights.
And the freaky thing costs 300 bucks in Ukraine!
And there are hundreds of FREAKS who dream of buying a digital camera! Don't think me mad guys, I know that you are satisfied with you digital SLRs at the moment, but just one link may change your mind:

Oh man, I just cleaned out my files this weekend! But I do still have this one - ever try to catch a feeding alligator? They weren't considerate enough to let me know when they were going to snap! This isn't bad timing, it's NO timing. (And no, they weren't eating the birds, just fish, I think)

Oops - sorry about that - forgot where I was! Been spending most of my time in Viewfinder, forgot I'd moved on over to Sports - so here's a badly timed sports photo: (supposed to be a diver - and if you really want a challenge, try photographing indoor diving!)

i think I'm missing what you're getting at. If you're implying that film has better image quality than digital, well... you're 100% right. The reason we shoot digital is not because of the image quality, but because it makes the whole process so much easier and cheaper.

    Obie,
Indoor diving is no different, it's all in the timing. This one was shot in the worst lit pool in our area shot at f2.8 1/200 and ISO 1600

And no, my timing isn't always that good.... another with bad timing... and bad focus on the ball.... same day as the diving shot.

    Re: not quite there

Here I am, JS - and I could use any advice on taking dive photos. But not for a while. It's over for summer and I'm not sure if my daughter will dive this winter in HS or not. I'll start a thread for diving when she gets going again.

And I could post tons of missed dive photos if I wasn't so quick to delete pics of nothing but pool water . . .

No problem Obie, whenever your ready. Hopefully your daughter will decide to keep diving. A friend here has a daughter who was a diver in HS, she won the state championship and is now trying for the olympics
