New guy and some GNCC dirt racing

Been lurking for awhile and like what I have seen. I hope to learn a bunch from all of you.

I have been concentrating on FTR club racing and GNCC. But if my schedule will allow I am going to add some friday night and saturday night roundy round racing.

What is your opinion of these? They are straight from the camera.
    D-40 18-200vr shot in A priority mostly at f/8.

Welcome, I learn a lot here everyday! I like the second shot, a little soft though, maybe after some finishing touches it will make it stronger. The first shot from the back (boy I was trying to not make that sound bad, delete rocks) is just a hard shot to work with, it looks great through the camera but when its uploaded well, it looks like the back of a bike. Try moving to the left or right and get it more on an angle and see how it works for you. Post more pics, it looks like fun!

I like that second one, it could have been better though if you aimed a little higher to get all of the spectators in rather then chop some of their heads off.

Are you using the centre AF point?
I'm guessing so because the bike is in the middle of the image.
That was one of the things I found hard to let go of

I know it's harder to aim for the head and not the bike, but if you'd tried to get the helmet in the AF point I think you've have got the spectators right.

I know that the focus points round the edge are not as sensitive or as fast as the centre one, but you can get better composition of the image if you plan in advance and use the AF points depending on what you're shooting.

I was in limbo about the rear shot of the bike going away. I have more that are not straight on. They just don't show the flying dirt as well. I will post a couple more that I have punched up slightly. Thanks for the information.

I believe I started out with CF auto but have since gone on to manual and AF only if the action is hot and heavy. I started out doing this shotgun style shooting almost 2800 photos in a 8 hr day. I have come to my senses and now use the burst button occasionally.
