    First Mountain Biking Shots

    Hey All,

I know there are a lot of bike shots in this forum, but I just returned from my first weekend shooting mountain biking with some friends here in Santa Cruz and I wanted to post a couple pics and see what everyone thought. I promise I'll post some surfing shots soon to balance things out.

All images were shot on a Canon 10D with the Canon 17-40mm f4 lens and a 550EX flash. Any comments welcome...

    Cheers!

    Mailbox?

Those are sweet. Excellent angles and great panning. Were those shot on Mailbox? I hear there's been a lot of building out there in the past few months.

    Hey Photo-John,

Indeed those shots were taken on mailboxes. They've been building up a couple kickers, some new ladder drops, and a few bridgest. All in all, a fun trail!

By the way, if you are still interested, I may be able to get you out at Mavericks next winter. Let me know...

    Ahhhhhhh

You're that Kai. Good to see you on the sports forum. It's starting to get pretty good. No surf photographers yet, either., You should post some Mavericks stuff. I actually went out there a couple of weeks ago just to take some photos of the harbor. Rode my bike out to the jetty and back.

As for shooting Mavericks, I have to admit I'm scared of that wave. But I think I should do it if I have the chance. It's too big of an opportunity.

    Have you ridden in Pacifica?

Yeah, that Kai indeed, good talking to yah!

I've done a fair amount of riding through the mountains between Montara and Pacifica as that's where I grew up, but now that I'm living in Santa Cruz I haven't ridden up there for a while. However, I've really been enjoying the trails around here as I'm just starting to get to know them (minus the poison oak).

I'll most definitely post some pics of Mavericks shortly as it'll be good to get some more variety in here. I was really stoked to see that this forum had been started. When I first started with sports photography it was impossible to find helpful suggestions and feedback for us sports photographers. Learning techniques for such a unique niche in the photography world was just trial and error. It's really great to see a place where people learn and are inspired from each other. Great job John!
