The rider is nicely in focus, however the picture is very washed out. Something as simple as adjusting the levels will make it so much better and really makes the rider stand out. I hope you don't mind but I cropped it in PS and cloned out the wires in the background too. Please let me know if you want me to post the pic. I know the wires were cut out very roughly (only took a min) but if you take your time it will look much better.

    Re: mountain biking

I would suggest showing the jump lip as well, so you can see how much air he is getting, and not have the rider quite to centered...or if he is going to be centered, have a cool background.

Otherwise looks good, Might be cool to slow the speed down a little so you can see a little motion such as the wheels spinning. And I suppose my last thing would be to not take the photo directly across from him. Instead try it from below him, or above...it seems to add more flare.

Here's a quick play with levels and cloning the wire out. Like I said, this was a very quick fix. Taking your time would look much better.

    Don't clone anything out.
Do a little on the spot in camera cloning out, while your shooting.
Watch for busy backgrounds and use bigger apetures!
    You'll be a better photographer.
If possible shoot durning the evening or morning when the light is golden.
    Good Luck!

How does the pic look on your monitor compared to the one that Mark posted? If Mark's looks really dark on your screen then you might look into calibrating your monitor. The one you posted needs a good punch of contrast and levels adjustments as it stands.

Looking at your photo makes me miss my dirt jumper!

rough edit. Like berry said, if the posted image looks dark, then you should calibrate your monitor. it looks right to me, but i calibrated my monitor a few weeks ago. I guess it may have fallen out, but probably not by that much. the reds in this version may be a bit too unsaturated.
