no problem with being early, much bigger problem with being late. The ball had already hit the side of the net and was dropping down, as you can see from the bunched net.
mels, the camera (10d) is inside a home-made housing clamped to the inside of the goal. It is triggered via pocketwizard with a home-made cable. I prefocus at about 2m and shoot at f/5.6. I have an assistant firing the PW while I shoot the game with my 1d.
Whoa, you can afford an assistant?
I was wondering how you did the remote stuff, I was thinking of making a secondary release fitted to the body under my little finger so I could work both cameras from one hand ...
You are moving up in the world, hiring an assistant ;)
I was at a (used to be) San Jose Earthquakes soccer game, and I spent most of the game watching the photographers. I saw one guy with either a 400 or 600 on a monopod, and he would rest his left hand on top of the lens holding a pocket wizard firing a camera behind the far goal. Depending on the lens you're using for your lacrosse you might be able to trigger it that way.
yes I have a pseudo assitant. One of my friends who i can pay less than minimum wage or just pay him in pizzas. As far as triggering the camera goes, I tried the whole press to button on the PW at the same time as firing, but I just dont have the presence of mind for it. its no problem firing as i just fire it with the same hand i use for the lens (since i leave my 70-200 zoomed in all the way and dont touch the zoom. It's just telling yourself to keep shooting with the body in your hands thats the hardest part. They make buttons you can fit around your lens that trigger it, or you can put it wherever you want. I just can concentrate much more on the camera in my hands if i just have someone else triggering it.
I purchased a remote control for my evolt 500, only problem I find with the design is that you have to be in front of the camera to use it. I was going to set it up for the hummingbirds but seems I will be in the background, I gave up!
And as for setting up in the back of a goalmouth...I will leave that to the pro's ha ha!!!
