    Monthly Sports Photo Project?

Well this idea just hit me and I wanted to see what the viewers in here think of the idea of having a monthly project for sports shooters, they do have one for everyone but I thought we should try something from a sports perspective. If the votes are in favor then we'll get suggestions for a September Project, and each month we'll do the same to get a subject so that everyone has a say in what gets done.

For me the monthly deals are good for trying different shots. This could help broaden everyones perspective on things.

Yup, thats the idea, just like the other forum that does this....not sure why it took so long for me to think about it for sports though

I voted yes, even tho I don't spend much time in this forum. With my nephew in baseball, football and basketball, I may be able to participate from time to time.

    Re: Monthly Sports Photo Project?

This idea of course would have to be approved by SmartWombat and The Captain of the ship PhotoJohn but I think if they see there is an interest they would go for it and give a
At the moment though I see one problem. 8 votes for, none against and 80 who viewed the thread but didn't bother to vote and I do not know how they (SW and PJ) would view that kind of response.

I'd love to do this, I need all the practice at the moment!! I'm sure even if you pick a subject like baseball, I'm sure I can find a team around Birmingham that play.

Maby, we could go by the seasons. Like fall would be football, winter would be basketball, then spring could be baseball, etc. And sense each season is more than one month you could do diffrent sports that are going on that season. Just my input.

    Re: Monthly Sports Photo Project?

The problem is that different states run sports in different times of the year. An example could be: Indiana soccer in the fall and California in the spring so that won't work. As it is here in Indiana boys tennis is in the fall and girls in the spring

I think the members could pick the subject, and for some projects it could be a broad subject allowing different sports played such as snow which allows all kinds of skiing snowboards etc...
but we'll figure out something to keep you in it SW, even if we end up with a US and European project which may be the way to do it as there are some specific sports in each area.

I could see the project being a theme, which could be interpreted differently by different sports, or something like that.

    a theme, like..

    September project: "the swing"

could be golf, cricket, baseball, hockey.. anything where an object is swung to hit another object.

    Re: Monthly Sports Photo Project?

I think what we should look at is not necessarily a certain sport but perhaps something like a theme. For example stop the action, show speed or movement, the decisive moment or the agony of defeat. That way everyone could participate regardless of what sport was being played or participated in in their area at the time. The only thing is the photos have to be sports oriented (even golf would count John).
Don't forget about the Gallery. Are your photos there??

    Re: Monthly Sports Photo Project?

I don't know how to vote.

I'll be the sports crasher and say that I would say "no" if the project of the month was a specific sport. I don't think many would go out of the way and expense to go to a sport not normally frequented just for the sake of the forum.

However, if it is theme-related and subject to individual interpretation, I would say "yes".

    So my vote is no-yes

As if a vote by a nature-guy counts
