    Merry Christmas *G*

New D20 in the house. Like the way it feels and am trying to devour the info in the manual.
Is the speedlite 580 the way to go flash wise?
Which (If any) filter should I get for the 70-200 2.8 thats on the way?
    Thanks again
    Mike

Depends, if you can afford the 580EX it's a GREAT flash, and planty of range for sports.
As for the filter, I use, and suggest the Hoya UV (0) filter as it does not alter colors yet protects from UV rays and protects the lens from scratches, damage and those darn kids who HAVE to touch the glass! Don't be shocked though when it costs $45 for that filter, but it's a cheap insurance policy!

Congrats Mike! I'm looking forward to reading the responses on the flash. I have yet to get one.

I got the Hoya filter JS recommends. It's an insurance policy for my lens. Worth it's weight in gold.
    It's not blurry. It's bokeh.

I used to buy the "el cheapo" filters until Matt at Roberts said that those were what was causing the color problems I was having. No problem since changing to the Hoya UV (0) though other than the normal stuff. Big difference though between $12 and $45 though!

You da man JS, $45 is quite a bit more but not when you consider the lens cost.
    Thanks Mike

    Re: Merry Christmas *G*

I have the 580EX on a 20D and have been very happy with it, got it for Christmas as a matter of fact. It has a ton of features most of which I haven't figured out yet, but chose it for the range, recycling rate and expandability. Some indoor basketball shots with with the 580EX and a 75-300 4-5.6 IS USM seemed a little washed out so I put a STO-FEN Omni Bounce on it (Model OM-GY) for $16.95 through B&H, and all was fine, diffused the flash. I just recently purchased a 70-200 f/2.8 IS USM and I'm absolutely thrilled with it. First time out shooting indoor basketball with the 2.8, I tried some shots with the flash and found I really didn't need it. I need to learn more about the settings on the flash and all it's capabilities but I'm not one for manuals. The next acquisition is the HOYA UV filter you just recommended.
