    The Many Faces.....

There are many faces of an athlete that you encounter while recording a sporting event. Paul's alternative view thread got me to thinking a little about this and I decided to post this thread. The young lady in all these photos is a family friend that we have watched grow up and become a very good person and a fine athlete. In this thread I have tried to explore some of the many faces of an athlete. The before event light hearted get loose spirit, the intensity of the competition and lastly the (to steal a much used phrase) agony of defeat.

Thanks Brian. She is a good subject, very animated on or off the track.

Thanks Lori and Wull. I like exploring other areas other than just he peak action shots when I'm at a sporting event. There are lots of side stories that beg to be told.

    Re: The Many Faces.....

Larry, that's something I've been trying to get the papers here interested in. Like many small newspapers they tend to tell the basic story and publish the peak action shots from a game and choose not to take some stories to the next level where they may actually be more interesting. I would like to see an "athlete of the week" or something along that line done in our sports section. Great shots as always with these!

    Re: The Many Faces.....

Thanks for giving me the idea Paul. I agree Daniel local papers many times just don't see the value of the extended photo essay or plain can't afford the space in a limited page type newspaper. Locals so often are struggling to balance the budget that the little extras get sacrificed in the process.

    Re: The Many Faces.....

Thanks for the kind comments Betty and Jim. I had four of five shots after that last race with her sitting on the track but I was able to isolate her better in this one and I think it does best convey the idea and feeling I wanted to show.
