Low light surfing

I thought most of these would be too dark to use, but this one turned out pretty good, I think. Does this work for anyone or is this too artsy for sports action?
Elan 7N, Sigma 70-300+2x TC, Fuji 800 print film.

It's a little dark but I like it. It's different. I know from experience that it's really hard to shoot that time of day. I'm sure that it would look better when in its full size.

I've also tried my hand at doing some artsy surf shots, with mixed results...

And I actually lightened this up some! I couldn't go much further without getting lots of noise in the shadows. There was literally no sun left at that point. Just the afterglow. I was already underexposing just to get a fast enough shutter to stop the aciton. Very tricky situation.
I know he's just kicking out, but the position of everything seems, like you said, different. We're used to seeing all these perfect shots of badass airs and off-the-tops and such, but not too many of guys just kicking out of a wave. If it wasn't for the color I think this wouldn't work at all. And yeah, I printed out a nice 8x10 cropped a little tighter and it looks really cool. My mom saw it and just gushed. She wanted the larger print immediately when I said it was my brother!
And if it wasn't for the 800 ISO, I'd have gone back to the nice warm car an hour earlier- it was really cold then!
That shot is similar to one I posted in the critique forum recently. I didn't mean to give it motion blur- just wan't paying close enough attention to my shutter speeds right then, but it worked out okay. I got lucky on the panning and his body and face are relatively focused. Small wave-- where's that at?

I shot that photo at a super-secret point break somewhere between Pacific Beach and La Jolla. Haha. I find it funny because I promised not to reveal its name or exact location but any idiot with a map can find it. Where did you shoot that one?

I took it at South Beach here in my town. It's right next to US 101. Like, literally, you park on the shoulder and the beach is a few feet from your tires. It's a 3-mile stretch of sand that everyone and their brother longboards at. Sometime shortboarders hit it, but it's a big flat beach- closeouts galore. It's all locals and Oregonians... It's the tourist beach, basically. But there's pretty much always someone hitting it. I've shot roll after roll of longboarders there. Not too exciting,
