Looking for a Solid Camera- Please Help

Hello all, I relatively new to the world of photography, and am looking for some help from those of you who are more knowledgeable than myself.

I am looking for a quality, relatively inexpensive camera which would also have good features for on-field sports photography. Additionally I was looking for a solid and inexpensive tripod for the camera.

I do not need an incredibly expensive, professional camera. We're talking high school photography club and on-field photography, but I do not want just a cheap camera.

Please in your post leave me a link with the camera/tripod you suggest. Thanks.

There are several Canon 1D Mark II cameras going for under $1,000. That may seem pricey but for a starter sports camera it would serve you well.

Re: Looking for a Solid Camera- Please Help

To get started I would recommend buying an entry-level DSLR like the Canon XSi, Nikon D60 or Nikon D5000. Those cameras have great image quality and they'd allow you to invest your money in a better lens. That's a much more important piece of gear for most sports shooting. A more expensive camera mostly offers more speed and better auto focus. But the entry-level cameras have gotten very good and technique goes a long way with focus and timing. You can't compensate for cheap lenses, though.
